The phrase “that believing” (Greek, hina pisteuēte) is a purpose clause combining the preposition hina with a present active, subjunctive. John’s objective was not that the reader merely come to a crisis of faith and know certain facts as a result of reading this gospel, but rather that the reader might keep on believing.
